Carnberry Hills Golf Course Sold
For a little over forty years, Cranberry Hills Golf Course, operated by Glenn and Mary Ann Heydinger and family, remained in the family hands. Glenn and his brothers Gib and Alan, had begun talking about building the course on Glenn's land east of New Washington on SR 103 for a couple years before finally deciding to take the plunge. Architects, contractors, drainage experts, earth movers, and builders were all contracted with and the clubhouse was officially opened for a party on New Years Eve, 1973. Only on June 8 of that year did golfers and league play commence.
A lot of golf balls have gone in the drink since then as the clientele that originally supported the course grew older and watched their children continue to enjoy the place. Glenn and Mary Ann worked long hours, as well as son-in-law Kevin Beeson as groundskeepr, to make a go of the business. Alan dropped out many years ago to go into the insurance business and then Gib also retired. Through it all Glenn and the family carried on, enjoying their time, working with two generations of kids who worked for them and also enjoying the golfers who played as well as the card players and other partiers who used the facilities over the decades.
However, time takes its toll, and so Glenn and Mary Ann decided to put the course up for sale through an auction. Time to relax and find other ways to enjoy life now. On March 25, 2013, the auction was held and a couple from Shelby, Keith and Nancy Alt, bought the course and will continue to operate it. After the sale, Glenn thanked profusely all those who supported him and the family over the decades and urged them to continue supporting the new owners.
Well done, Glenn and Mary Ann and family. Enjoy what comes next! Ad multos annos!
